about DEBRA

It was always my dream to be a writer. My career began when Focus on the Family hired me as a junior copywriter for their in-house ad agency. I was 46. After seven years in various positions with Focus on the Family’s advertising agency, I moved to Missouri. There I opened an editorial services business and have been working as a freelance writer ever since.

My book Help! My Husband Has Sexually Abused Our Daughter: A Devotional for Mothers of Victims, written from personal experience, was released in 2007. My passion is to reach hurting women with the encouragement of Christ. In March 2009 I launched Glory and Strength.com, a webzine dedicated to helping abuse survivors find hope and healing. The bi-monthly webzine covers such topics as sexual abuse prevention, addictions and recovery, pornography prevention, how to survive a crisis, how to find the right counselor, chronic illness, surviving adultery and more. The webzine steers readers to God as their ultimate source of hope and healing and offers practical guidance.

I have been published in The Dabbling Mum.com webzine and have written on assignment for Josephine and Sunny magazines. My article “Not Why, But What” will appear in the July 2010 issue of LIVE magazine. I am a contributor and co-editor of the book Lifecapades: Revelations of Generations releasing in December 2009. I have written as a guest blogger for Sandra Byrd and also write on various writing topics for writers’ newsletters. I am a graduate of the Jerry B. Jenkins Christian Writers Guild Apprentice program and member of Heart of America Christian Writers Network.

I was born in Norfolk, Nebraska, and call Nebraska home. But I have also lived in Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Hawaii, Ohio, and Colorado. I spent four adventurous years in Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall and Desert Shield. I served three and a half years in the Marine Corps and am now very active in the Marine Corps League. I live in northwest Missouri. I have three grown children (each born in a different decade and a different state) and two grandchildren.
