A consistent mistake beginning writers make is in sending queries submitting without first learning what is required with the submission. Study the magazine and thoroughly follow their submission guidelines.

Agents cover particular genres and many take submissions only through authors they meet with at conferences or current client referrals.

The same goes for queries you send to publishing houses—know what they publish and what they require with your submissions.

Improve your chances at acceptance and reduce your rejections by following the submission guidelines.
