This month, I want to follow up on my post about expectations where I stated, “What we expect, we look for.”
On my phone I have recorded 11 affirmations that I listen to daily, usually once in the morning and once at night. Author Melissa Holy calls them signature self-talk. These statements help me renew my mind to the truth, keep me focused on what I want versus what I don’t want, and help me set my conscious expectations for the day. But am I only looking for big things and missing the little ones?
Conscious Expectation of Blessings
More than once I’ve asked God to help me see all the blessings He brings me—the big and the little. It is a daily practice I want to develop, to expect and look for His blessings.
Today, it took the Holy Spirit to catch my attention.
While driving to a weekly business event I attend, my son texted and asked if I could stop for donuts on the way home. Okay, I answered. At the event sat 3 large boxes of varied donuts and long johns for event attendees. I enjoyed my favorite glazed donut and a great cup of coffee while networking and listening to event presenters.
Afterward, I asked about buying some of the leftovers to take home. She said “just take a box. They’ll go to waste otherwise.” I happily did (thank you, Gold N Glaze). But it took the Holy Spirit telling me this blessing came from God for me to consciously connect the gift to the Giver and say thank You.
Profound Realization
This may seem inconsequential to you, but for me it was profound and brought realization to other situations in my life.
When you are seeking change, that vision of what you want and the conscious expectation of its fulfillment must reside within your conscious awareness all day long.
Are you visualizing the life you want yet expecting what you don’t want? Are you expecting only big things and missing all the little ones?
