As I looked back over my posts from 2024, I noted a theme: believe and trust in God.
Both of which require faith. Especially when your prayers seem unanswered…or your desires unmet…and you’re losing hope.
As I wrote this, I found myself listening to Danny Gokey’s song “Haven’t Seen It Yet.” On the heels of that, I listened to “Stay Strong.” I needed those reminders: that good things are coming, and that I need to stay strong in my faith.
We all have times when doubt assails us. But we can’t give in to it, or it will only get worse. We have to shift our focus from the problem to the truth of God’s Word. All of God’s promises are yes and amen in Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 1:20). “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (Rom. 8:32 NLT).
What are you facing today? Do a search on Bible verses that speak to that issue. Then write them down and read them out loud each day to build your faith and belief.
If you allow yourself to only think about the problem, you will prolong the problem and bring more. Shift your focus to what you want, then believe and have faith. Or do like I did, build a playlist of songs that encourage you. I have a whole playlist of nothing but Danny Gokey songs. Another list I titled Warrior Songs that speaks to the areas that I struggle with the most.
Find ways that work for you so you can immediately turn to them to pull you out of your doubt and discouragement. God is good all the time. You might not see the good right away, but it’s there. You can’t have the bad without the good, just like you can’t have a top without a bottom or a left without a right.
Speak words of life—I will get through this; the money I need to pay this bill is here; I am healed; I am a child of God with the power and authority of Jesus Christ.
Don’t let doubt get the upper hand. Instead, command it to leave. Then spend some time in praise and gratitude for all God has done for you. (Note to reader: this post is as much for me as it is for you.)
So timely. Thanks so much for this encouragement.
You’re welcome.
Sometimes it takes a long time to get to the point where we start to look up instead of just focusing on our circumstances. Good post.
So true. Looking up seems to be the last ditch resort when it should be the first.
Thanks for these reminders of strategies to combat doubt, Debra! Things we know we should do, but perhaps forget while mired in those emotions!… God bless your ministry! <3
I’m glad they helped. As I said in the post, I often write these posts as much for me and for my readers. I need reminding too.
