Much of this year, I’ve written in my Wednesday Word emails and on my blog about building your faith. And believe me, what I write is a much for me as it is for you.
Since publishing my Bible study, Unshakable Faith, the Devil has constantly attacked me. One of the regular darts he throws is “Would God do that for me?”
At the root of that question is doubt about my worth. Who am I that…
- Christ would die for me?
- God would heal me?
- God would provide for all my needs?
The list is endless. And the fact is, none of us is worthy.
What the Bible Tells Us
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” (Romans 3:23).
But the Bible also tells us:
“The free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23b).
He extended this great gift of eternal life through Jesus not because we were worthy, but because God loves us!
“God so loved the world” (John 3:16a)
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8).
Have You Swallowed the Devil’s Lies?
We trust that God loves us enough to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives, yet we struggle to accept His promise to provide all our needs, our healing, our prosperity.
Why?
Because we ask ourselves “why would He do that for me?” Many of us conclude He wouldn’t. We sigh and move on, not realizing we are accepting a lie from the Devil.
And that’s exactly what the Devil wants. He wants us to live in defeat. Or worse yet, to come to the conclusion that God doesn’t fulfill His promises.
Until the very moment of writing this, I never even considered how illogical the question “would He?” is in light of “God loves me.”
Instead, we need to ask, “why wouldn’t He do that for me?”
Why God Fulfills His Promises
Jesus died to make every promise in the Bible available to us (2 Corinthians 1:19-20).
God does not fulfill His promises based on our worth or whether we deserve it. He fulfills His promises because He made a covenant. In the Old Testament He made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants. When Jesus died on the cross, God made His covenant with Jesus. And that covenant cannot be broken!
If God does not fulfill His promises, He is not only lying, He is also breaking His covenant.
“No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said” (Psalm 89:34).
Jesus said in Luke 12:32, “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.” The kingdom includes all His promises. Not some. Not a few. ALL of them.
Remember, dear reader, God does not respond to us on the basis of our worth, but on the basis of who we are: His children.
He “saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 1:9).
So then, why would He not fulfill His promises?
When you find yourself saying “would God do that for me?” stop and and rebuke that thought. Then speak the Word that applies to your situation.
“Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:32).
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise” (Hebrews 10:23).
Planting Seeds of Faith
When doubt assails you, what Bible verses do you speak to encourage yourself?
Find verses that apply to your life and speak them out loud every day, because faith comes by hearing God’s Word. This will plant that Word in your spirit and build your faith in that promise. Do this as often as you would take a prescription medication if you were sick. Speaking the Word out loud is a biblical principle of calling “those things which do not exist as though they did” (Romans 4:17 NKJV).
We are planting the seed of His Word in our spirit. That seed will grow and produce the fruit God intended (see Isaiah 55:11).
It’s the way God works. He calls forth what He wants (see Genesis 1). The words God said occur 9 times in Genesis 1. We are made in His image and we can do the same. See last month’s post, “Be Fully Convinced in God’s Word,” for an example confession of the Word and start today to apply God’s Word to your life.

“I stayed up all night reading. This book resonated so closely to what I was personally going through as I read it, I could not put it down. The characters are real and believable, complete with very human flaws and vulnerabilities.” ~MD, Amazon reader.
