The Power of His Word

Lately, everywhere I turn, the Lord is confirming His message to me about how vital His Word is in our lives. That’s because there is power in His Word!

My book discussion group is studying Revelation of Royalty by Dr. Bill Winston of Living Word Christian Center. We decided our homework for next time would be to write down and meditate on the specific verses He has given us individually and to keep our spiritual eyes open to how that is bringing change in our lives.

In less than 7 days, I heard two messages about meditating on God’s Word. I love how God confirms things to us.

What His Word Does for Us

His Word is our weapon. “And take…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17 NKJV).

His Word is our seed. In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus explains that “The seed is the word of God” (Luke 8:11 NKJV).

His Word is food for our spirit and soul. In Jesus’ rebuke of Satan in the desert He said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4 NKJV).

There is power in the Word. Many verses speak to that fact, but here are two:

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12 NKJV).

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11 NKJV). (This one’s on my meditation list.)

But if we aren’t spending time reading the Word or meditating on it (feeding on it and planting it in our spirit), we can’t effectively wield our sword when needed or plant and harvest our seeds. Not only that, but our faith weakens from disuse.

To get a full understanding, watch my podcast episode below, “When the Enemy Attacks, Speak the Word.”

“His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him…by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:3–4 NKJV). That is something to shout about!
